New Users
Are you new to chatrooms? Don't worry, Friendly Chat is new
to the web! As a new community, we love new users and we love to help our new users, too!
The first thing you need to learn is that chatrooms are as safe
as you make them. Don't be intimidated by stories in the press. If you have common sense then chatrooms are perfectly safe.

Your Username
To get started you need to choose your username. We recommend
you choose a username that stands out from the crowd and differentiates you from everyone else. Think real hard about your
very first alias, choose one that describes your personality and the type of person you are in "real life". For example, 'KickAssKate!'
would stand out much, much more than 'kate23'.
Becoming Known As A Regular
Once you have chosen your alias - stick with it! The
next time you visit our community, use the same alias - otherwise, how will people remember you? You can't make friends if
people think you're a complete stranger everytime you visit, and that's why you're here, right? To make friends? Then remember
your alias and don't change it.
Introducing Yourself To The Other Chatters
Once you are in a chatroom we suggest you sit back, relax and
read the room for a few moments. Say "hello" and "how are you?" then watch the room to see what the general topic of
conversation is. Jump into the topic of conversation with an opinion of your own. If there isn't much of a topic going on
and it's all random chat, then why not start one? Ask other chatters what they're into, kick up a conversation. Enquire about
their interests and they'll respond to you. In turn, they will then enquire about yours.
ASL? ASL? ASL?
If you jump in shouting "ASL? ASL? ASL?" you're more than likely
going to get ignored and generally annoy people. That's not chatting, that's being a complete nuisance. At Friendly Chat we
try to discourage the use of 'ASL'. Let's put the 'chat' back into 'chatting'!
Making Friends
Once you have shown you can converse it'll be pretty much easy
for you to make friends.
Let your hair down, be polite, courteous, jokative, banterful
- and you'll be perfectly fine! Remember, we have staff members to help you. If you have any enquiries or need a bit of assistance,
feel free to private message a support staff member at any time.
A few don'ts
- Don't bombard people with 'ASL? ASL? ASL?'
- Don't harass people who aren't showing any interest.
- Don't annoy people by persistently asking them for "cam, phone, msn" etc
- Don't be a pervert!
- Don't private message users without their permission.
